This time i’m going to write about “Gangnam Style” by PSY, a song that people from all over the world has been listening to these past few weeks. Have you listened to it? Its a great song, very playful and its inliterally telling about culture value of Korea. How is it possible? Nah, first of all let’s watch the MV first and listen to the song! 🙂

COOL right? This song has a really catchy beat and makes you want to dance to it right away! I haven’t seen any KPOP song that can break through the international market without even trying in the past 4 years (maybe) after ‘Nobody’ by Wondergirls. I’ve been a fan of KPOP since 2006 and my first KPOP Idol is TVXQ! 🙂

Now let’s discuss about “Gangnam Style”! Get in your horse-riding position! 😉

Gangnam Style is released on 25 July 2012. Its included in PSY’s 6th studio album: PSY’s Best 6th Part 1. ‘Gangnam Style”s music video was released on August and has received 277 millions view on Youtube and is the most viewed video in Youtube EVER! The song also receives much love from all around the globe. ‘Gangnam Style’ even reached its peak at #1 position on iTunes US Chart. That’s a brilliant achivement! Its cool right how KPOP can takes over the world so easily? 🙂

PSY is Korean legendary Rapper who debuted under Birdman Ent in 1999. Now this 35 years old man is under YG Entertainment, which happens to be one of the best entertainment companies in Korea. Park Jae Sang is known for his funny and bubbly personality, yet his songs reflect his personality since he also does songwriting. Anyway, PSY never expect that his song would be THIS popular. You know how popular it is right…

‘Gangnam Style’ also has an official other version, titled “Oppa is just my style” by PSY featuring Hyuna of 4minute. Its more likely like ‘Gangnam style’ from the female perspective. This version is also fun to listen to and has the same vibe as the original one. Check it out!

Now let’s take a look at how famous this song is!

2) ‘Gangnam Style’ has reached #1 and #11 spots in both iTunes and Billboard chart and numerous international charts! That’s a WOW for KPOP song!

 

3) ‘Gangnam Style’ ‘s music video has reached over 277 millions view in Youtube (and still counting) and has been recorded by Guiness World Record for being The most viewed video in Youtube ever!

4) Numerous ‘Gangnam Style’ flash mobs has been done in all over the globe 

5) ‘Gangnam style’ also got so many parodies done by people in all over the world.

This song’s popularity is too much that i can’t mention it one by one!

 

I’m quite sure you guys are curious about Gangnam, don’t worry! I’ll tell you about it 😉

Gangnam means “South of the River” because it is located at the South of Hangang River, the river that divides Seoul into 2 area. Gangnam is actually name of a district in Seoul, Korea. It is known for the metropolitan lifestyle because it is one of the most wealthy neighbourhoods in Seoul. Being known as a wealthy district, the cost of the land here rockets up high making Gangnam the most expensive real estate in Korea! 

Then why does it become the title of a song?

That’s because it is Gangnam! The lifestyle there is becoming controversial and sensational. And from what i read in the lyrics, PSY is telling us about the lifestyle in Gangnam, how people are so high-classed from what they drink, how they look and dress, etc. and how it has much difference with people who live a normal life (not Gangnam-style life).

I only known a few about Gangnam district, so maybe by joining this contest, Buzz Korea by KTO will give me a chance to know more about the country i love the most beside my own country, Korea. I really hope to know more about Gangnam district too and experience the sensational Gangnam-style lifestyle! Thankyou!
